Digital Transfers are an excellent alternative to screen printing or embroidery when you want to apply logos to jackets. It is also useful for polyester t-shirts, singlets & tops (i.e. performance fabrics) where it makes a brighter full-color image than digital garment printing, and can be applied to any color garment.

Digital transfers work best on polyester and nylon fabrics. Not recommended for cotton, as image will buckle with garment shrinkage.
Like screen printing, digital transfers require set up time, so it is best for medium to long print runs. The image is printed on special vinyl, similar to thin banner material, then cut to shape with a plotter. The image is then heat-sealed to the garment.
Advantages
- bright full-color image on dark fabrics
- no extra cost for multi-color images
- less heat needed to cure print, reducing shrinkage & bleeding
- does not affect water-proof garments, unlike embroidery
- costs less than embroidery for large graphics applied to jacket backs
- extra logos can be stored, so fill-in orders are less expensive
- can be applied across some seams & pockets, allowing for better logo placement on some garments
Disadvantages
- image is shiny. This hasn't been a problem for jacket orders, but it's less appealing on t-shirts
- fine detail can be printed but not cut out, so some images require a background, making logo more like a patch
- multi-step process takes time, so rush orders aren't possible. Typical lead time is 2 weeks.
Price guidelines
- it takes time to set up the printer & plotter, so larger orders cost less per piece
- larger images take longer to print & use more materials, so cost increases with image size
